Does the REPORT Act require every user to file a CyberTipline report?
No. Its mandatory reporting provisions apply to covered service providers when the statutory knowledge threshold is met. Members of the public may voluntarily report suspected exploitation.
Does a CyberTipline report prove that a crime occurred?
No. A report supplies information for review and possible investigation; criminal responsibility is determined through the justice system.
How long must reported material be preserved?
The Act changed the general preservation period from 90 days to one year. Providers may preserve it longer for qualifying child-protection purposes.
What should happen in an emergency?
Call 911 or local law enforcement if a child faces immediate danger. A CyberTipline report can also be submitted.
